Want a tough can that is light enough to run on locked breech pistols without a booster*?   Meet the TLX! Made from 6Al-4V gr. 5 titanium, it is a fully welded 10 baffle tubeless suppressor that can be used on pistols, carbines and sub machine guns. The Alpha pattern threads in the rear will accept 1.125-28 threaded mounts and adapters, including 3 lug and Griffin Cam Lok & EZ Lok**.   TLX comes standard with an ultralight 7075-T651 direct thread mount in your choice of 1/2-28, M13.5×1 LH, 9/16-24, .578-28, 5/8-24 or M16x1 LH (specify thread in note when ordering).

TLX has been subjected to torture testing with back-to-back-to-back magazine dumps on 900+ RPM sub machine guns, 10.5″ 5.56 AR, full auto 16″ AK47, 18″ barrel .308 and even a 22″ .300 win mag! (these are not approved uses, BTW)  Despite it’s scant weight, it’s a tough little bugger!

Use of cast lead bullets is not recommended with sealed suppressors.  However, TLX can be cleaned with harsh chemicals that dissolve lead.   Be sure to remove the aluminum mount first before submerging in solutions that are not aluminum-safe.

*We have not tested all possible host & ammunition combinations.   Some pistols may need more energetic loads with a rigid mounted suppressor, and there are some hosts that simply don’t like to run suppressed, with or without boosters.  We cannot guarantee function of all host firearms, only that all of ours have functioned with TLX using subsonic ammunition, and it is known in the industry that 4-5 ounces is the approximate limit for weight of a suppressor on most locked breech handguns to cycle without the use of a recoil booster.  Hammer fired hosts tend to be more tolerant of added mass than striker fired, though our striker fired weapons have been reliable with TLX using common 147 gr. 9mm and 230 gr. .45 ball ammunition.  It is possible that some pistols out there will still need our Alpha booster assembly to cycle properly even with a 4 ounce suppressor.

**The added mass of some mounts/adapters or optics may cause the total rigid mounted mass to exceed the limit for reliable cycling on short recoil pistols.  Federal Syntech 150 gr. 9mm ammunition has been problematic with hosts that cycle 147 gr. ball and even the lighter-loaded Fiocchi 158 gr. ammunition just fine with TLX.

Determining whether or not an unlisted cartridge is acceptable for TLX

As a comprehensive list of all acceptable cartridges would be insanely long, we have a formula you can use to determine if an unlisted cartridge burning a charge over 20 grains in a 16″ or longer barrel is acceptable for use with TLX or not.  This does involve a little math, but it’s easy.

First, unless you know exactly the powder charge of each load you’ll be using,  you need to look up load data and go with the largest powder charge listed for the lightest bullet weight you will use

Next you will need to determine bore volume, disregarding chamber size.   Simply plug in the bullet radius (NOT diameter) in inches and barrel length in inches with a calculator like this one: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=cylinder+volume+calculator

Take that value, add 1, and then divide the largest listed powder charge for the cartridge by the sum of your cubic inch bore volume + 1.   The value needs to be under 16 for use with TLX

For example, 7.62×39 uses a .311″ bullet, and the largest powder charge readily listed for a 123 gr. bullet is 28 grains

.311″ bullet diameter has a .1555″ radius, which gives a cylindrical volume of 1.215 cubic inches.  So adding 1, the value we’ll divide the 28 gr. powder charge by is 2.215.  28/2.215=12.64

.45 70 with a 67 gr charge in a 22″ barrel gives us 14.5

5.56mm generally has charges of ~25 grs, so in a 16″ barrel we get a value of 15.3.

.243 win, on the other hand, uses a smaller powder charge than heavy .45-70 loads, but the bore volume is also much smaller.  A .47 gr. powder charge in a 22″ .243 barrel gives us a value of 23.2.   Way too much.
